Britain’s 5 most popular breeds of working dog
Dog ownership soared over the pandemic based on the Kennel Club, as lockdown meant people felt more able to open their homes up to a new puppy. The popularity of dog pups has been growing. When the quantity demanded increases, the price keeps increasing.
While there are a lot of things I would consider before choosing the perfect dog, there are 221 different purebred dogs to choose from. If you want a big dog, a friendly dog, or a cute dog, you have to think a little bit more.
The Kennel Club separates breeds into seven different groups, each of which has a particular set of attributes.
If you want a nimble, strong dog, you need to look at the breed of dog. These are the 5 most popular working dogs in the UK, based on Kennel Club registrations in 2020.
1. Boxer
There’s no doubt the top dog in the UK when it comes to the Working Group. The Boxer is a German import that had 3,202 registrations last year.
2. Dogue de Bordeaux
The French Dogue de Bordeaux, also commonly known as the Bordeaux Mastiff, is a large powerful dog that is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. There were 1,500 registrations of the breed last year.
3. Rottweiler
Known for being great guard dog, the Rottweiller can also make for a surprisingly gentle and loving family dog. The number of registrations will be 2,050 in 2020, second only to the first in the working group.
4. Great Dane
A gentle giant, the Great Dane is one of the world’s largest dogs, but they love children because their nature is very gentle. A total of 772 dogs were registered last year.
5. Dobermann
With 1,440 Kennel Club registrations in 2020, the Dobermann, or Doberman Pinscher, is the fourth most popular dog in the Working Group. One type of dog that is very protective of its owner’s family is a dog of German descent.
