Dog Grooming Basics
Dog grooming is one of your dog’s basic needs and an important part of dog ownership. Like people, dogs need regular grooming to make them look better. Fortunately, dogs do not need to bathe as often as people, but you do need to learn how much grooming your dog requires and keep it on a schedule. Generally, a dog’s grooming needs depend upon the different breeds, hair types, lifestyles, and so on. If your dog has a skin, ear, or nail condition, follow your veterinarian’s instructions. It is also important to use appropriate tools.
Firstly, hair brushing. Most dogs enjoy being gently brushed—it can help dogs have a healthy and clean coat. A dog’s brushing needs depend on its hair type. Choose the right brush and follow these guidelines:
Long-haired dogs, such as Maltese, usually require daily brushing or combing to prevent matting and tangling of hair.
Medium-haired dogs should be brushed at least weekly.
Short-haired dogs can typically be brushed when they get dirty or are shedding a lot.
Secondly, nail trims are often disliked by dogs and owners alike. Dogs cannot accept the pain when they cut their nails. Dog owners are often uncomfortable with the process for fear of hurting their dogs. So the best way to avoid this is to learn how to trim nails correctly and exercise caution. Most dogs need monthly nail trims, but your dog may need more or less depending on the rate of nail growth.
The third is bath time. It does not mean fun for most dogs and owners. dogs are not as conscious as people, so there will be many unexpected situations in the process of bathing them. For example, they will run around the room or make trouble in the bathtub, and the owner of the pet cannot control it. Learn how to bathe your dog properly and make the experience as positive as you can for you and your dog.
Most dogs only need to be bathed when they get dirty, but many people like to bathe their dogs monthly to reduce “doggy odor.” Depending on the condition of your dog’s skin and coat, the veterinarian may use a specific shampoo for the dog. In this case, be sure to follow your veterinarian’s instructions about bathing.
Next is ear care. The ears of dogs are crucial. the only way ear cleaning is needed is a quick wipe after bathing. Ear problems can often be traced back to genetics. Dogs with sagged ears or hair within the ear canal tend may easily cause ear problems because the ear simply does not have as much air exposure. Many chronic ear problems are a sign of allergies, at this time, pet groomers will deal with ear problems according to different situations.
The last is haircuts. Dogs need their hair cut every four to six weeks depending on the breed of the dog and the style of the cut. This task is often best left to professional groomers, though many dog owners can learn some basic skills about grooming.
Basic pet grooming is also a very important thing for owners because knowing the steps of dog grooming can help them keep their dogs clean and tidy and deepen their feelings.
